Lunenburg supervisors accept up to $17,600 in state funds for airport runway engineering

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors voted Dec. 9 to accept state aviation funds, not to exceed $17,600, to pay for preliminary engineering on a Runway & Apron Rehabilitation project at the county airport. County Administrator Tracy M. Gee told the board the Department of Aviation had approved the award and asked the board to accept the funds and authorize the chairman and county attorney to sign the agreement.
Supervisor Frank Bacon moved to accept the award and authorize signature; the motion carried by roll call vote with all seven supervisors voting yes. Administrator Gee said a Department of Aviation representative will visit the airport on Dec. 21 to mark trees that need removal, which will aid in obtaining removal quotes.
The action is limited to acceptance of state preliminary-engineering funding; no contract awards or construction authorizations were discussed at the meeting. Any future work beyond preliminary engineering will require additional approvals and funding.
