Chippewa County Road Commission approves two township road agreements and renames Neebish Island road

The Board of Chippewa County Road Commissioners voted Dec. 18 to approve two township road agreements and to rename a Neebish Island road.
On a motion by Commissioner Sprague, seconded by Vice‑Chairman Charles Moser, the board signed a Bruce Township agreement for work on 12 Mile Road between M‑129 and Riverside Drive with a township share of $145,000. The board approved a Rudyard Township agreement for Prairie Road between Dryburg Road and approximately 1,300 feet east of Chub Creek Road with a township share of $175,000. Both motions carried.
Manager Laitinen presented a letter asking that Lee Road on Neebish Island be renamed Laitinen Road, noting county practice of honoring original settlers and that the Lee family no longer lives on the island while several generations of the Laitinen family continue to reside there. Commissioner Sprague moved to rename the road, Vice‑Chairman Moser seconded, and the motion carried.
