Benzie County reappoints local board members, establishes ad hoc interview committees

At its Nov. 14 meeting the Benzie County Board of Commissioners reappointed several residents to local authorities and set up ad hoc interview committees to address vacancies.
The board reappointed Coury Carland to the Frankfort Airport Authority through Dec. 31, 2027, and reappointed Dr. Mark Kuiper to the Benzie-Leelanau Health Department through Dec. 31, 2025. Commissioners also reappointed Betsy Evans to the EDC/BRA for a six-year term ending Dec. 31, 2028, and reappointed Annie Browning to the Solid Waste Advisory Committee for a two-year term ending Dec. 31, 2025. The board authorized an ad hoc interview committee to address Solid Waste Advisory Committee vacancies and named the chair, Commissioner Warsecke, Commissioner Cunningham, an administrator designee, and Jesse Zylstra to that committee.
The motions to reappoint and establish committees carried with recorded votes (unanimous among those present; Commissioner Markey excused). Several commissioners asked that by-laws and recruitment be priorities for the EDC and other authorities going forward.
