Benzie County treasurer announces retirement; Land Bank demolitions, renovation plans detailed

County Treasurer Michelle Thompson told the Benzie County Board of Commissioners at its Jan. 9 meeting that she will retire effective Feb. 29, 2024, and asked for a 30-day transition period to begin hiring and training replacement personnel.
Thompson reported that the Land Bank completed demolitions at two properties in the Village of Thompsonville and is working on a third location; the Land Bank is planning to renovate a home in the Village of Benzonia and staff are pursuing funding for that work. She also said auditing is progressing and staff expect to present audit materials in March.
Thompson’s retirement and transition request were presented as part of department head comments; the board did not take separate action on her announcement during the meeting.
