Benzie County board approves bills, contracts, wage adjustments and appointments

The Benzie County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 27 approved a series of fiscal and personnel actions, including payment of bills totaling $445,937.04, a construction change order, wage adjustments in the prosecutor’s office, a two-year appraisal services contract and several board reappointments.
Bills and routine items: The board approved payment of bills from Feb. 13 through Feb. 27, 2024, in the amount of $445,937.04. Commissioner Sauer moved the bills payment and Commissioner Cunningham seconded; roll call was unanimous with Commissioner Warsecke excused.
Consent and policy items: Items B, C and D on the consent calendar (Summer Road Patrol renewal agreements with the Village of Honor, Village of Beulah, Lake Township, and Crystal Beach Cottager’s Association; an amendment to the Equal Employment Opportunity policy to add the Grievance Procedure under Section 504; and a Non-Discrimination on Basis of Handicap policy) were approved together by motion of Commissioner Markey, seconded by Commissioner Cunningham.
Contracts and change orders: The board authorized a change order to the Grand Traverse Construction contract for the Lower-Level Expansion Project in the amount of $13,705.20, to be paid from the Capital Fund (motion by Jeannot, seconded by Cunningham). The board also approved a two-year field work services agreement for the Equalization department with Dr. Mark Holley, Complete Appraisal Service, at $24,500 annually; agreement subject to approval as to form by legal counsel.
Personnel and wage adjustments: The board approved wage increases and a title change for positions in the Prosecutor’s Office from Prosecutor Office Secretary to Administrative Assistant. The County Administrator was directed to complete a budget adjustment of $6,066.65 from contingency to the appropriate wage line; the wage increases take effect March 3, 2024, and no step increases will occur until the 2024–25 fiscal year on each employee’s anniversary.
Appointments: The Board reappointed Donald Tanner and Paula McLain to the Manistee‑Benzie Centra Wellness Board for three-year terms ending March 31, 2027, and reappointed Mark Roper, Vincent Edwards and Susan Wenzlick to the Benzie County Land Bank Authority for three-year terms ending April 5, 2027 (Wenzlick’s appointment contingent on submission of a reappointment letter).
Closed session and adjournment: At 11:03 a.m. the board entered closed session under MCL 15.268(c) to discuss negotiation of a collective bargaining agreement and returned to open session at 11:59 a.m. The meeting adjourned at 12:58 p.m.
