Charlevoix County veterans committee sets Oct. 4 event plans, asks VSOs to gather vendor quotes

The Charlevoix County Veterans Affairs Committee met Aug. 6, 2025, at the county Veterans Affairs office in Charlevoix and discussed planning details for a veterans event scheduled for Oct. 4, 2025. John Bush, a committee member who called the meeting to order, presided over the session.

Committee members approved minutes from April 9, 2025, on a motion by Thomas Breakey, seconded by Seth Thorson, and minutes from July 9, 2025, on a motion by Seth Thorson, seconded by Mark Warner; both motions carried as recorded. Mark Warner later moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:54 p.m.; Thomas Breakey seconded and the motion carried.

The primary substantive discussion focused on the Oct. 4 veterans event. Committee members reviewed options for food and beverages, activities, giveaway items and desserts, and discussed advertising, event hours and setup logistics. The committee directed veterans service organizations (VSOs) to obtain quotes for vendors and other costs and to present those estimates at the committee's next meeting, scheduled for Aug. 20, 2025.

County staff members Kylee Wells and Polly Busman attended and were present for the discussion; no new business items or public comments were recorded. The meeting record notes several regular committee members — Henry Erber (Chair), Timothy Nemecek (Vice Chair) and Joni Hosler — as absent for this session.

The committee's next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 20, 2025, when VSOs are expected to present the requested quotes and cost estimates for the Oct. 4 event.
