Charlevoix County Veterans Affairs Committee approves purchases and schedule for Oct. 4 veterans event

Henry Erber, chair of the Charlevoix County Veterans Affairs Committee, called a special meeting on Aug. 20 and the committee unanimously approved plans and purchases for an Oct. 4, 2025 veterans event.
Mark Warner, committee member, moved to select two games — ski ball and cornhole — for the event; John Bush seconded the motion and the committee approved it. The committee then reviewed and approved a detailed food and supplies order including 80 hot dogs ($44.96), 72 burgers ($152.64), 20 pounds of potato salad ($39), 20 pounds of coleslaw ($41.20), 144 hot dog buns ($28.85), 120 single-serving chip bags ($86.56), 120 buns ($26.52), 96 (8 oz) Shasta pop ($33), eight 24-count water ($39.44), napkins ($12.84), paper plates ($18.98), plastic cutlery ($15.48) and two 4-pack condiments ($8.98). The motion to place the food order was made by Mark Warner and seconded by Seth Thorson; all approved.
The committee approved several giveaway purchases for the event. Warner moved and Bush seconded approval to buy 200 stainless steel tumblers at $12.46 each (total $2,491.33). Warner then moved and Bush seconded approval to order 500 ID tags with Veterans Affairs contact information and a veterans hotline at $.57 per tag (total $285); both motions carried unanimously. Seth Thorson moved, and Warner seconded, approval to purchase 400 Colorbrite stress balls at $2.08 each (total $870.99). Warner moved and Thorson seconded approval to purchase 144 4"x6" flags at $2.50 each (total $360). All motions were approved.
Committee members agreed that leftover giveaway items from the Oct. 4 event will be carried over to future events, and that any leftover food will be donated to the Charlevoix County Commission on Aging. Logistics discussed and confirmed included picking up games on Friday and returning them Sunday; the event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with a seafood dump at 2 p.m., and conclude at 4 p.m.
There were no public comments and no new business. The committee adjourned at 5:37 p.m. on a motion by Thomas Breakey, seconded by Mark Warner; the motion carried unanimously.
