The Charlevoix County Veterans Affairs Committee met Jan. 14 at the county VA office and approved minutes from Dec. 8, 2025 (the agenda had an incorrect year listed as 2026). Chair Timothy Nemecek moved to approve the minutes; Thomas Breakey seconded and the minutes show the motion carried with "All approved" recorded in the minutes; an exact numeric vote tally is not provided.
County staff introduced Bryce Dewitt as a new employee in the Veterans Affairs office. The committee also received the director’s report for the last quarter of 2025 and the office’s annual report; the minutes do not record any substantive action on those reports.
Board liaison Scott Hankins "addressed the committee" during the public-comment portion that accepts items not on the agenda; the minutes do not specify the content of his remarks. Under good of the order, Chair Nemecek encouraged the committee to remember its purpose of assisting veterans, thanked Joni Hosler for participating in Veterans Service Officer interviews, and noted he will be absent from the February meeting. Thomas Breakey read an email from Chair Nemecek to Joni Hosler that led to discussion about email scams. Mark Warner asked about updating committee contact information on the Charlevoix County website; the minutes record that county staff (Polly Busman) confirmed the site had been updated and that two members had requested their contact information not be shared publicly.
Chair Nemecek moved to adjourn at 5:21 p.m.; Mark Warner seconded and the minutes record the motion carried.
