Barry County to prioritize jail planning and review Friend of the Court facilities in 2025

Barry County officials said strategic planning for 2025 will include discussion of the county jail and an evaluation of the Friend of the Court (FOC) building.
County Administrator Eric Zuzga told the Board of Commissioners that 2025 strategic planning discussions are in motion, that the jail will be discussed in 2025 and that a facilities report for the FOC building is expected in the first quarter of 2025. Commissioner Bob Teunessen said the board's "number one priority is the jail" and said a plan will be made for the FOC building; he added that the Commission on Aging Steering Committee has been asked to reach out to local contractors for bids on a new building.
During the limited public comment period resident Gary White raised concerns about window replacement at the FOC building and other county facilities. Bill Mattson, executive director of the Child Abuse Prevention Council in Barry County, thanked Commissioner Mark Doster for requesting that the Area Agency on Aging deliver a report to the board.
Next steps the board recorded include awaiting the FOC facilities report in early 2025 and scheduling discussion of the jail as part of the 2025 strategic planning process.
