Houghton County board accepts grants, approves budget amendments and several appropriations

At its Dec. 13 meeting the Houghton County Board of Commissioners accepted a remonumentation grant for $81,094, approved budget amendments for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 2022, and approved several appropriations including Karhu Cyber, UPEDA membership and Copper Country Mental Health.
Commissioner Glenn Anderson moved and Commissioner Gretchen Janssen seconded to accept the remonumentation CY2023 grant of $81,094; the motion carried unanimously. Administrator Bjorn summarized small budget amendment totals and the board approved those amendments by vote.
Commissioner Codere provided analysis and proposed a capital investment plan for the Transfer Station estimating $2.1 million in reinvestment over 15 years and a 2024 proposal for $150,000; the board referred the matter to the auditors and continued the discussion to the Jan. 17, 2023 meeting with Commissioner Janssen to draft a Solid Waste plan. The board also approved appropriations: Karhu Cyber FY23 $6,948.79, UPEDA membership $500, and Copper Country Mental Health $41,123.73.
