Houghton County commissioners appoint members to health boards and reduce Solid Waste Committee size

At its Jan. 20 special meeting the Houghton County Board appointed commissioners to District Health and Mental Health boards, named Gretchen Janssen chair of the Solid Waste Committee, and voted to reduce the committee from three members to two and amend the Rules of Order.
The Houghton County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 20 made several committee appointments and changed the membership rules for the Solid Waste Committee.
Commissioner Gretchen Janssen moved, and Commissioner Roy Britz seconded, appointing Commissioners Roy Britz, Glenn Anderson and Joel Keranen to the District Health Board effective January 2023; the voice vote passed (Ayes 4, Nays 0). Commissioner Joel Keranen moved, and Commissioner Gretchen Janssen seconded, appointing Commissioner Roy Britz to the Mental Health Board; that motion also passed by voice vote.
Regarding the Solid Waste Committee, Chairman Tom Tikkanen announced Commissioner Gretchen Janssen as chair and Commissioner Joel Keranen as a member. Commissioner Roy Britz moved and Commissioner Gretchen Janssen seconded a motion to reduce the number of commissioners on the Solid Waste Committee from three to two and to amend the Rules of Order; the motion carried by voice vote (Ayes 4, Nays 0).
During the public comment period, resident Emily Timonen asked about adoption of the Public Environmental Code; Chairman Tom Tikkanen said, “The Public Environmental Code has not been adopted yet.” Resident Karen Timonen raised a question related to a FOIA request; Chairman Tikkanen advised she should send her request to the Health Department.
Administrator Bjorn announced that auditors would return to the courthouse on Monday. The board adjourned at 1:20 p.m.
