Public comment period features complaint about notification and a speaker removed after accusations

At the end of Sumter County Council’s July 26 meeting, members of the public used the allotted comment period to raise procedural concerns and personal grievances.
Resident Louis Watkins urged earlier public notification of proposed rezonings from the Planning Commission, arguing constituents learn of rezonings too late when notices appear only at second reading. Watkins said purchasing the property could be an option, echoing Councilwoman Vivian McGhaney’s earlier comment.
Pamela Denise Robinson spoke about a series of personal legal grievances involving Enterprise, the county detention center and sheriff’s offices in two counties, her bank and a rental car company. She said County Council is "responsible for all the laws within the County" and accused the chairman of knowing about her issues. After roughly six minutes of remarks and an attempt by Chairman James T. McCain, Jr. to clarify that he had only spoken to her once, Robinson became belligerent and was removed from the chambers by meeting staff.
Council did not take action on her accusations during the meeting.
