Residents press council for road repairs on Kangaroo Lane and sidewalks for Walnut Hill community

During the public-comment period of the Nov. 22 Sumter County Council meeting, residents raised local infrastructure needs: Richard Geddings asked the county to resume maintenance of Kangaroo Lane, which county staff has told residents is private though deed language appears to indicate county maintenance responsibility. Geddings said residents need help resolving the discrepancy.
Gwen Padmore described efforts by the Sumter Seventh Day Adventist Church to open and expand a small produce store to serve the Walnut Hill neighborhood and said there is a gap in sidewalks between nearby apartments and the store that creates safety hazards. Dr. Brenda Williams, executive of Family Unit, Inc., thanked Padmore and urged support for the Walnut Hill community, asking county officials to work with Santee Lynches Regional Council of Governments and Sumter Urban Area Transportation Study (SUATS) to pursue funding for sidewalks and to explore a bus route in coordination with the Santee Wateree Regional Transportation Authority (SWRTA). No formal council action on these requests is recorded in the meeting minutes.
