During committee reports Sept. 27, Sumter County Council approved two Fiscal, Tax and Property Committee recommendations: directing the County Administrator to request Sumter Easy Homes LLC’s financial records for rebate review, and allowing Thompson Holdings to borrow $1,300,000 from the county Infrastructure Fund to help finance a new Sumter County speculative building.
Committee Chair James T. McCain Jr. reported that the committee voted to request the company’s financial records so the county can review whether any rebates are due. On the Infrastructure Fund recommendation, council approved a $1.3 million loan to Thompson Holdings to assist financing of the speculative industrial building. Both recommendations were approved unanimously by council.
Why it matters: the Infrastructure Fund loan is a county-supported financing action intended to spur industrial development; the record request regarding Sumter Easy Homes LLC initiates a review of potential rebate obligations.
Next steps: County staff will send the records request to Sumter Easy Homes LLC and proceed with loan documentation for Thompson Holdings under terms approved by the county; staff follow-up was assigned by the Fiscal, Tax and Property Committee.
