Delaware County commissioners voted Dec. 9 to accept a donation of the former Arvest Bank building at 338 S. 5th St., including furniture, fixtures and equipment.
Tammy Ingalls of Arvest told the commissioners the bank needed to downsize and offered the roughly 11,000‑square‑foot building to the county while retaining operating space for the drive‑through and a small office; under the arrangement Arvest will pay rent for the portion it continues to use. Commissioner Jake Callihan said while the county has not yet decided on a use, “the space is much needed.”
Commissioner Callihan moved to accept the donation; Commissioner David Beck seconded. Roll call votes were recorded in favor by Callihan and Beck; the motion carried unanimously. The board did not adopt a plan for the building’s use at the meeting and no department was assigned implementation tasks during the session.
County officials noted the donation includes furnishings and equipment, which could reduce immediate renovation costs should the county repurpose the space. The board’s acceptance is a first procedural step; county staff will evaluate options and report back to the commissioners in a future meeting.
The county solicited and accepted the donation during its regular meeting at the county courthouse in Jay; the commissioners adjourned at 9:35 a.m.
