Commissioners spar over repair plan and budget for Brush Creek Road in District 3

Commissioners discussed County Road 608 (Brush Creek Road) in District 3 on Nov. 10 after the road remained damaged since a June flood.

Commissioner Jake Callihan said the road has been "torn up since the June flood" and that only one lane is slightly passable; he pressed for a plan to make two lanes passable so vehicles can pass each other. Commissioner David Beck said District 3 does not have funding available and that his employees are stretched thin; he also raised concerns about unmaintained roads in District 2 and asked that Callihan address those issues.

Callihan argued that substantial work can be done without new spending — citing grading that had not been completed — and asked for immediate action. Beck said he was not aware grading had not been done and said his budget was tapped out; he said his crew would attempt repairs this week.
