Whitfield County hires engineer for drainage work and approves Rocky Face Ridge park construction items

Whitfield County commissioners on March 8 approved engineering and construction‑support steps for local drainage and park entrance work and authorized equipment purchases for Public Works.
The board entered a contract with Southeastern Engineering, Inc., for $108,000 (SPLOST 2020 funds) to provide surveying, drainage design and construction engineering for replacement of eight corrugated metal pipe drainage crossings. Commissioners described the work as design and construction oversight for existing cross‑pipe replacements and authorized the firm to coordinate utilities and produce cost estimates and inspection services.
Separately, the board approved purchase contracts and bids related to the Rocky Face Ridge park entrance, including a stackable boulder wall and boulder purchases from Riverside Stoneworks, and appointed a Rocky Face Ridge Advisory Committee (Mike Babb, Dewayne Hunt, Brian Chastain and Mark Gibson) to coordinate stakeholders when the park opens.
Public Works also received approval for operational equipment purchases: four Ferris ISX‑2200 zero‑turn mowers and a 73‑hp track skid steer. The board approved annual public works bids (tandem dump trucks with operators, road striping, gravel/crushed stone, and concrete), and discussed but tabled a request to add a 'No Thru Trucks' restriction on Timberghost Road.
Public Works Director Dewayne Hunt presented department goals for 2021, which included adjusting driveway permit fees to better cover material costs, contracting second driveway installations to property owners, exploring alternative surfacing products, and continuing to use LMIG credits for paving and milling projects.
