Board approves Kronos upgrade, planning appointment, animal-shelter grant and transit policy update

At the May 10 meeting the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners approved several administrative and operational items.
IT: the board authorized upgrading the Kronos timekeeping system to a non‑Flash version at a one‑time cost of $26,000; annual Kronos maintenance was noted at $29,501. Officials said the upgrade will delay a major environment upgrade for a few years.
Appointments and grants: commissioners appointed Chris Shifflet to the Dalton‑Varnell‑Whitfield Planning Commission to fill an unexpired term through July 2024. The board accepted a $10,000 Petco Love grant for the Animal Shelter to support lifesaving investments.
Transit policy: the board approved an addendum and revision to Whitfield County Transit’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy to comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation update to 49 CFR part 40 and Georgia DOT requirements. The motion to approve these items passed 3-0.
The board also recognized Jefferson County Transit employee Jeff Howard as March’s Employee of the Month (Howard works in Whitfield County Transit).
