Board approves $90,000 ARP-funded sewer extension and contracts for road and drainage work

The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners on July 12 approved several infrastructure and public-works items, including an ARP-funded intergovernmental sewer-extension agreement and engineering contracts.
The Board approved an agreement with Dalton Utilities to extend public sewer from North Whitfield Middle School to Edwards Park for $90,000; funding will come from American Rescue Plan allocations. The motion was approved unanimously and the project is intended to provide sewer service for Edwards Park and nearby facilities.
The Board also approved a $50,000 professional services contract with Southeastern Engineering, Inc. (SEI) for design and bidding assistance on the McGaughey-Chapel Road at Old Prater Mill Road intersection improvement. SEI will perform surveys, engineering design and bidding assistance. Separately, the Board authorized a $23,285 hydraulic drainage study from Atlas to analyze flooding in the North Gillum Drive basin and recommended options to minimize flood impacts.
The Board approved a state-contract purchase of a 2021 Ford Ranger for Engineering at $33,650. All motions passed 4-0.
