Whitfield County approves SPLOST-funded Riverbend Park work, Maple Grove intersection and other contracts

Whitfield County commissioners approved several SPLOST-funded construction contracts and professional services at the May 10 meeting.
Parks & Recreation: the board approved three Riverbend Park contracts budgeted under 2020 SPLOST: Electro‑Mech for soccer scoreboards at $29,144; Game Day Construction for field construction, fencing, turf subbase and sidewalks at $3,038,288; and Shaw Sports Turf for turf installation with safety underlayment and a cooling topper at $1,514,910 (Sourcewell Contract #060518 S11). County Administrator Mark Gibson presented the SPLOST project updates.
Engineering and public works: the board approved a Bartow Paving, Inc. bid for $657,591.67 to widen Maple Grove Road, add turn lanes and install a traffic signal. Commissioners also approved a $32,000 professional-services contract with Southeastern Engineering, Inc. for design and bidding assistance to stabilize a failing slope on Head Road, described as an emergency repair. The board purchased a precast concrete restroom from CTX Incorporated for Rocky Face Ridge Park for $87,267.46.
All contracts and purchases noted above were approved by recorded motion (typical vote 3-0). The approvals move the projects into procurement and construction phases funded by 2020 SPLOST appropriations.
