The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners voted July 12 to approve two technology packages: a $583,284 contract with WH Platts Company to replace courtroom evidence and video systems as part of 2020 SPLOST courthouse renovations, and a set of IT and cybersecurity renewals and upgrades funded in part by American Rescue Plan dollars.
The courtroom contract, approved unanimously, replaces equipment the sheriff and judges have used for 16 years and that is largely out of warranty and difficult to service. The purchase is intended to add reliable, warrantied equipment and remote-connection capability (Zoom, Webex) to reduce inmate transports and support multiple judges.
Separately, the Board approved renewal of the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement with SHI for $77,481.41 per year, multi-factor authentication with Cisco DUO ($15,562.40), expansion of Barracuda security services ($52,615.33 per year for three years), and $29,080 for migration and implementation services. County IT Director Rick Lovelady noted routine outages and endpoint threats but reported no data loss; the Board authorized the cybersecurity work using ARP funds.
All motions related to the purchases and renewals carried on 4-0 votes.
