County Administrator Mark Gibson told the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners at its July 12 meeting that July 22 would be his last day before moving to a role as chief operations officer for Whitfield County Schools. Chairman Jevin Jensen, during his monthly report, listed several ongoing capital projects, including Riverbend Park and courthouse renovations scheduled for completion in January 2022.
The Board voted to appoint County Engineer Kent Benson as Interim County Administrator. The motion, made by Commissioner Greg Jones and seconded by Commissioner John Thomas, carried 4-0 with Commissioners Jones, Staten, Thomas and Robbins voting in favor. The Board did not set a permanent replacement during the meeting.
The appointment transfers interim administrative duties to Kent Benson while the Board and staff prepare for the transition after Gibson’s departure. No additional personnel actions or dates for recruiting a permanent administrator were announced at the meeting.
