Board approves Kangaroo Express license, road closing and planning commission rezoning recommendations

At its Dec. 14 meeting the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners approved a set of land-use, licensing and planning actions.
Chairman Jevin Jensen opened a public hearing for an alcohol beverage license application filed by GKU 1 Inc., d/b/a Kangaroo Express, at 2622 Chattanooga Road in Rocky Face. With no public comment, the hearing was closed and the board approved the alcohol beverage application (motion by Commissioner Greg Jones, seconded by Commissioner Robby Staten; approved 4-0).
The board also held and closed a public hearing on a petition to close and abandon Tiarco Road; with no speakers, the board voted to close and abandon the road in specified land lots and issue a quitclaim deed (motion by Commissioner Barry W. Robbins, seconded by Commissioner John Thomas; approved 4-0).
The board voted to approve planning commission-recommended rezoning requests, including a 6.23-acre tract for Nicholas and Louise Daddona from Rural Residential (R-5) to General Agriculture (GA) and a 1.08-acre tract for Arturo Pintor and Edgar Corhejo Pintor from Low Density Single Family Residential (R-2) to Rural Residential (R-5). Shoal Ventures requested its rezoning application be returned to the planning commission for another public hearing; the board agreed to send it back. The board also recorded a no-objection position to a City of Varnell annexation for parcel 11-263-01-179.
On alcohol licensing overall, the board approved the 2022 alcohol license renewals for establishments that passed local background checks conducted by the sheriff's office; the transcript notes one application failed the background check and was not renewed. The board encouraged interested individuals to contact commissioners regarding an appointment to the North Georgia Community Action Board; that appointment was tabled.
All motions referenced above were approved unanimously (4-0).
