Commissioners rezone 5-acre Highway 82 parcel to General Business for used car lot

The Tift County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a zoning map amendment on March 13 to rezone five acres on Highway 82 East (Tax Map 0072 Parcel 069F) from Agriculture (AG) to General Business (GB) to allow operation of a used car lot.
Community Development Services Director Chris Davis said the parcel is surrounded on three sides by property already zoned GB and that the requested zoning is consistent with the Greater Tift County Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Commission considered the zoning criteria on Feb. 9 and voted unanimously to recommend approval.
Jacob Owen and Benny Owen spoke in favor of the rezoning at the public hearing. County Attorney Anthony Rowell asked commissioners to declare any conflicts of interest; none were reported. Commissioner Melissa Hughes moved to approve the rezoning; Commissioner Fred "Buck" Rigdon seconded and the motion passed 6–0.
The rezoning clears the way for the property owner to develop a used car lot under GB zoning rules; the record notes there were no calls to the office in opposition or support prior to the Planning Commission hearing.
