Screven County commissioners approve surplus vehicles, dispatch agreement and direct bids for recreation department wells

At its Nov. 12 meeting, the board declared five sheriff’s vehicles surplus and approved advertising them for sale, approved an intergovernmental after-hours dispatch agreement with the City of Sylvania, agreed to seek bids for wells at the Recreation Department, and discussed cardboard pickup and a Solid Waste Management Plan update.
The Screven County Board of Commissioners addressed several routine items during its Nov. 12 meeting.
On a motion by Commissioner J.C. Warren, the board declared five Sheriff’s Department vehicles surplus and authorized the county to advertise them for sale; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioner John O. Triplett moved and the board approved an Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Sylvania for non-emergency after-hours dispatch services; the motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Triplett also raised a proposal to allow businesses to arrange cardboard pickup with Screven County Task for a small fee and noted that businesses may drop cardboard at the county Transfer Station. Discussion about creating a county Facebook page was deferred. On water-cost concerns at the Recreation Department, the board directed Recreation Director Truman Anderson to obtain bids and a plan for installing wells to reduce payments to the City of Sylvania; Commissioner Michael McBride said he expects the wells to pay for themselves through reduced bills.
Zoning Administrator Randy Hagan reported that documentation for the Solid Waste Management Plan update has been sent to Attorney Frank Jenkins for review and drafting.
Public commenters questioned board appointment status and sought clarification on the landfill as related to the Solid Waste Management Plan. The meeting adjourned at 9:47 p.m.
