Screven County commissioners approve road contract, mutual aid pact, grant application and appointment

The Screven County Board of Commissioners met Dec. 12, 2019, at the Screven County Courthouse and unanimously approved multiple measures including a road contract, a grant application for patrol vehicles, an intergovernmental aid agreement and a board appointment.
At the meeting, the board adopted a resolution approving the low bid from Ellis Wood Contracting, Inc. of $226,291.95 for construction of Robinson Williams Way. The motion was made by Vice-Chairman J.C. Warren and seconded by Commissioner John O. Triplett; the board voted unanimously to approve the contract.
Commissioners also approved application for a USDA Rural Development grant to purchase four patrol cars. Brett Dickerson requested the board’s permission to apply; the packet listed the grant amount at $155,864 with a required match of 55 percent, which the minutes estimate would leave the county’s share at about $78,000. Commissioner Rosa Romeo moved to authorize applying for the grant; Commissioner Michael McBride seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The board approved and authorized execution of a Statewide Mutual Aid and Assistance Agreement intended to support intergovernmental emergency response. Commissioner McBride moved to approve the agreement and Commissioner Triplett seconded; the motion passed on a unanimous vote.
On appointments, the board appointed Jimmy Murray to the Tax Assessors Board and adopted a resolution establishing his term of office. Commissioner Warren made the motion; Commissioner Mike Dixon seconded and the board approved the appointment by unanimous vote.
The commission also adopted a resolution supporting locally established building design standards for residential dwellings as presented. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Commissioner Warren, seconded by Commissioner Rosa Romeo and approved unanimously.
There was no public comment recorded. The board entered an executive session at 9:25 A.M. to discuss personnel, litigation and land acquisition and returned to open session at 10:30 A.M.; the board then approved the executive session minutes. Chairman Will Boyd adjourned the meeting at 10:30 A.M.
The meeting record does not specify further implementation schedules, funding sources beyond the USDA grant estimate, or contractual start dates for the road work.
