At the Unified Government work session on Sept. 23, resident Christine Richards addressed the commission about a $260 fine she said stemmed from a court appearance she did not receive notice of. Richards said her property’s 911 address had been recorded as 145 for two years though her actual address is 140, and she said she suspects a sign contractor’s error. She told the board she is on a fixed income and asked where the money went.
County Manager Thomas Weaver told Richards that the commission cannot reverse fines imposed by the courts but said staff could investigate the 911 sign, the address record, and any water-billing issues Richards reported. Chairman Charles Coffey confirmed staff would look into the 911 sign and address; Commissioners also asked follow-up questions about water billing and court notice procedures.
