The Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Commission voted Aug. 5 to reduce the Planning & Zoning Board from seven members to five through a resolution recorded in the meeting minutes.
Commissioner Jason Frost moved to reduce the board; Commissioner Gerald Douglas seconded. Commissioners Timothy Biddle and Damon Hoyte opposed the motion. Chairman Charles Coffey cast the tie‑breaking vote in favor, and the motion passed.
The commission noted the short‑term resolution will not fill vacancies as terms expire until the board reaches five members. County Attorney Binford Minter told commissioners that the long‑term solution to change the board’s size would require an amendment to the county zoning ordinance; the resolution serves as an interim measure.
Audience member Latrese Brown told the commission she had submitted an application and would be willing to serve on the Planning & Zoning Board; commissioners thanked her and said applications remain on file for future openings.
Commissioners said they will leave terms in place and not fill seats until the board falls to five members, and staff were directed to reflect the change in minutes and on the county website.
