Cusseta–Chattahoochee commission approves SPLOST account, LMIG project change and reappointments; creates Public Safety Director post

At its Feb. 4 regular meeting the commission authorized a SPLOST bank account, approved switching an LMIG road project, reappointed three Planning & Zoning members and created a Public Safety Director position; an executive session on legal matters was also held.
The Commission of the Unified Government of Cusseta–Chattahoochee County took several administrative actions at its Feb. 4 regular meeting.
Motions approved included opening a 2025 SPLOST bank account and changing the LMIG resurfacing allocation from Riverbend Road to Friendship Road; both votes were moved by Commissioner Jason Frost and seconded by Vice Chairman Timothy Biddle, and recorded as unanimous among the commissioners present. The commission also reappointed Randy Register, Teresa Smith and Willie Brown to the Planning & Zoning Commission through Dec. 31, 2027. Commissioners voted unanimously to create a Public Safety Director position and authorized staff to begin the hiring process.
The board entered executive session at 6:11 p.m. to discuss legal matters; the meeting reconvened at 7:07 p.m., and Chairman Charles Coffey stated that the closed-session topics were within statutory exceptions and that no votes were cast during the session.
Why it matters: the SPLOST bank account establishes an administrative mechanism for managing special-purpose local-option sales tax revenue; the LMIG change reassigns a pavement preservation project; creating a Public Safety Director is a personnel and organizational change that will require subsequent job posting and recruitment.
What’s next: county departments were directed to proceed with preparing bid packets for LMIG, processing SPLOST account setup with the finance office, and to follow human-resources protocols for the new Public Safety Director job posting and recruitment.
