Work session: Chattahoochee County schedules cemetery bylaw review, CUP process overhaul and prioritizes Friendship Road repairs

During the Jan. 27 work session the Board of Commissioners directed staff to bring cemetery bylaws back for discussion at the next session and to continue reviewing the conditional‑use permit (CUP) process with the Planning & Zoning Board (the board suggested inviting P&Z to an evening meeting on Feb. 24 to review wording and process steps).
County Manager Thomas Weaver said the county will begin budget‑cycle communications and noted HB581 implications for local sales tax administration; he said the county will likely need a special election in November to opt into the referenced provision and that the county will prepare informational materials for the public.
The board added Friendship Road to its LMIG/road project priorities and directed staff to use 2024 LMIG funds to address the road’s condition; Commissioners noted Liberty Hill Road’s proximity and related maintenance needs. The work session included department head reports on recreation, code enforcement, water/wastewater operations, animal control and public works staffing and equipment issues.
The work session went into executive session for legal, personnel and real estate concerns and reconvened before adjournment.
