Chattahoochee County sets 2026 qualifying fees; qualifying runs March 2–6

The Chattahoochee County Board of Commissioners voted on Jan. 26 to set candidate qualifying fees for the 2026 local elections, adopting $362 for county-commission positions and $72 for seats on the county Board of Education.
Chairman Charles Coffey read the fee schedule during a called meeting that immediately preceded the board's monthly work session. Commissioner Jason Frost moved to approve the fees; Vice Chairman Timothy Biddle seconded the motion, which passed unanimously among commissioners present (Chairman Coffey, Vice Chairman Biddle, Commissioner Gerald Douglas and Commissioner Jason Frost; Commissioner Damon Hoyte was absent).
Under the approved schedule, qualifying will open Monday, March 2, at 9 a.m. and close Friday, March 6, at noon. The county clerk was directed to publish the qualifying fees in accordance with state law.
Why this matters: Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-131) requires counties to fix and publish qualifying fees by Feb. 1 in any year when a primary, nonpartisan election, or general election will be held. By adopting the fees at the Jan. 26 called meeting, the commission satisfied that timeline and set the administrative window for candidates.
The commission filed a formal resolution memorializing the fee schedule. The county clerk will publish the fees and make the qualifying schedule available to prospective candidates as required by state statute.
