The Minnehaha County Commission handled routine business and committee items at its Aug. 11 meeting, approving vouchers, personnel moves and several administrative items.
The board approved payment of bills totaling $476,698.21 covering a wide range of vendors and services, including COVID-19 related purchases, highway materials, inmate supplies and contracted services. The detailed list of vendors and line items was presented and approved without roll call challenge.
Commissioners approved multiple personnel actions including new hires (Emily Klein, Michael Peterson, Hailey Behrens), step increases (including Carol Muller and Sgt. Matthew Aanenson) and administrative corrections. The personnel motions passed unanimously.
The Commission received and placed on file the June 2020 Coroner Report, the July 2020 Sheriff’s Monthly Report and the Aug. 2020 Highway Department Construction Project Monthly Report.
Planner II David Heinold briefed the board on a public nuisance complaint at 1509 N Ellis Rd (owned by Warren Glawe). Staff reported multiple inspections and contacts with the owner and found the issues had been abated as of Aug. 10; no public testimony opposed or supported the staff recommendation and the Commission took no further action.
Commissioners also appointed three members and three alternates to the 2020 Minnehaha County Appraisal Board to appraise tax deed properties and county gravel pit property prior to any surplus declaration. Liaison reports covered contractor interviews for the Highway Facility and recent association meetings. Commissioner Barth commented on the financial strain on landlords and tenants during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Commission adjourned and scheduled its next regular meeting for 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020.
