Commission Assistant Melinda Storley briefed the board on the lien, which originally totaled $13,680.72 for Poor Relief services provided between October 2016 and April 2020. Storley said the applicant reported an annual income of $37,608, assets of $4,300 and liabilities of $827; the applicant’s 2019 tax return showed $9,540. The applicant was present and said the lien must be resolved before the home purchase can close.
Commissioners raised concerns about the applicant’s household finances and the lack of financial information from the co‑purchaser and adult children who plan to live in the new home. Despite those concerns, commissioners expressed support for reducing the lien amount to 50% to enable the purchase to proceed.
Commissioner Barth moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Heiberger seconded. By roll call vote the motion passed 5 ayes. The resolution requires payment of the reduced amount within one year or the agreement becomes null and void.
The action is recorded as Resolution MC20-58 and was approved the same day. The Commission did not specify any additional conditions beyond the payment timeline. No separate appeal or further hearing was scheduled at the meeting.
