Registrar asks for third workstation and board orders signage and poll preparations

Charlotte County’s electoral board discussed several practical preparations for the upcoming election at its Sept. 1 meeting, including a formal request for an additional workstation, recent cybersecurity installations, sign inventory and poll-worker readiness.
General Registrar Virginia Booth said ASSURE cybersecurity software has been installed on two office laptops by ITG but that staff are sharing a single workstation and urgently need a third laptop. She said she will forward a request for additional appropriation to the Board of Supervisors.
Booth also reported that three people who attended National Night Out signed up to work the polls on election day and during early voting. The board noted those volunteer leads and confirmed members will attend the South-Central District Meeting for Electoral Board Members on Sept. 3 in Victoria, Va., for further training and coordination.
Chairman Glenn Baker said he will inventory existing election signs and order any additional signs needed to ensure every polling place is properly signed on election day. The board reviewed proposed newspaper advertisements about the election and permitted the registrar to run the two notices planned: one alerting voters to changed polling locations and a general election notice.
Kenny Townsend urged that the person assigned to the poll book be familiar with the poll book count sheet, that counts be requested during the day, and that the chief and assistant chief know poll-closing procedures. The board recorded no additional public comments.
