Charlotte County electoral board confirms redistricting; voters warned to check changed polling locations

The Charlotte County Electoral Board on Sept. 1 was told that redistricting changes for the county have been completed and sent to the state for approval, and that new voter notices will be mailed next week.

General Registrar Virginia Booth told the board that the office has requested updated district maps and that the state will mail the voter notices resulting from redistricting. To supplement those mailings, the registrar sought permission to place two newspaper advertisements: one urging voters to pay particular attention to polling-place locations that changed under new district lines, and a second general election notice. The board permitted the registrar to proceed with the advertisements.

Booth also reported that ASSURE cybersecurity monitoring has been installed on the office’s two laptops by ITG. She said the office is preparing for increased voter contacts ahead of the election and has been using public outreach events, including National Night Out, to answer voter questions and recruit poll workers.

The registrar said she has requested an additional appropriation to procure a third laptop so staff will not need to share workstations as early voting and election day approach. She described the third workstation as an "absolute necessity" for pre-election operations; the request will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for action.

The board did not take a vote on the redistricting itself; Booth said state approval and the mailing of notices are the next steps. The electoral board recorded no citizen comments during the meeting.
