Electoral Board schedules budget workshop, earmarks $700 for polling places and approves minutes

The Charlotte County Electoral Board set a budget workshop for Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. and reviewed items to include in next year’s budget, including staff salaries, new outdoor signs, security cameras, a voting machine or training bin, and ballot-on-demand printers for early voting. The board noted $700 in this year’s budget for polling places and discussed distributing $100 to each of four community locations that can accept donations; three municipal locations were noted as unable to accept donations.

General Registrar Jenni Booth told members that the budget is due Feb. 23 and that board members have registered for the VEBA annual conference; the boot camp will be offered at the conference on March 25 in Roanoke and a webinar on legislative changes is scheduled for July 12. The board also discussed issues from the Nov. 22 election and plans to address them in the upcoming training cycle.

Procedural actions at the meeting included approval of the Jan. 5 minutes and the adjournment. Chairman Glenn Baker moved to accept the Jan. 5 minutes with two corrections; the motion was approved without objection. At 4:02 p.m. Mr. Baker moved to adjourn; Mr. Foster seconded and the motion carried without objection.

The meeting packet included bills for payment, a budget synopsis through January, the officers-of-election worksheet and the registrar’s written report. The board did not take formal, recorded votes on budget allocations during the Feb. 9 meeting; budget decisions will be addressed at the Feb. 13 workshop and during the county budget process.
