Thomasville mayor reports hospital sale in due diligence and potential $12–$14M redevelopment

The mayor updated the council on progress toward redeveloping the local hospital campus and other downtown projects.
He said a purchase contract has been signed and approved by a judge and by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, but the deal is still in a due-diligence phase that must be completed before the transaction is final. "There's a signed contract, purchase contract that's been approved by the judge and been approved by USDA. However, there's still a due diligence period that's got to be fulfilled in that," the mayor said.
Officials told council a redevelopment at the old hospital site is under discussion that could total roughly $12 million to $14 million. If the proposal proceeds, the mayor said a letter of intent could arrive quickly and the developer estimates a construction window of about 18–24 months.
The mayor also reported several downtown projects advancing: renovations at a downtown movie theater are moving from structural work to interior finishing, Daxby's is expected to open before March, and ballpark construction and lighting are progressing. The council heard that the JL Betsoil Foundation awarded $300,000 to the city and parks department to assist the ballpark project.
Council took no formal vote on the hospital sale at the meeting but welcomed the developments and said staff would continue to monitor the due-diligence process and follow up with the developer.
