Board members asked whether that language permits an observer to read the e-poll-book screen, potentially revealing voters' personal information, and referred the question to the Virginia Department of Elections for official guidance.
The board also revisited a past practice of placing security seals on the tops of voting machines while machines were transported between the registrar's office and polling places. Members said the practice had been discontinued after being advised it added no security, but that seals conveyed a public-perception benefit.
Mr. Glenwood Foster moved that seals be placed on the tops of voting machines during transport to and from polling places. The motion was approved without objection.
Board members confirmed scheduled delivery of voting machines to polling places on Monday, June 19 at 8:30 a.m., with staff to meet at the registrar's office. There were no citizen comments and no additional electoral board member comments recorded at the meeting.
