Electoral board approves moving three Charlotte County polling places to fire stations

The Charlotte County Electoral Board voted Aug. 3 to move three polling locations to local fire stations, saying the changes respond to site boundary and access concerns.
Aubrey Fane, secretary of the Charlotte County Electoral Board, moved to "Go forward with our plans to relocate the Phenix polling location to the Phenix Fire Department, the Charlotte Court House polling location to the Charlotte Court House Fire House, and the Bacon/Saxe polling location to the Drakes Branch Fire Department." Glenwood Foster, the assistant chairman, seconded the motion, and it carried without objection.
The board reported it had met Aug. 2 with leaders of Shiloh Baptist Church to discuss a 40-foot property boundary that affected the Bacon/Saxe polling site and to present plans to relocate that precinct to the Drakes Branch Fire Department. The board said it already has agreements in hand with the Drakes Branch Fire Department, the Charlotte Court House Fire House and the Phenix Fire Department to host voting.
Virginia Booth, the general registrar, said she will begin the formal process with the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors to effect the changes, which will require the board’s administrative steps and public notice.
During public comment, a Mr. Wells asked why the polling locations were being moved; the board did not adopt additional findings on the record beyond the motion and the earlier meeting with Shiloh Baptist Church.
The electoral board adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
