Charlotte County registrar reports 128 early voters; 202 absentee ballots mailed

General Registrar Virginia Booth told the Charlotte County Electoral Board on Oct. 5 that early in-person voting, which uses a ballot-on-demand system, began Sept. 22 and had recorded 128 voters as of the morning of the meeting. Booth said staff have been handling early voting because turnout remains small and that the ballot-on-demand system is working well.
Booth provided absentee-ballot numbers: 202 ballots have been mailed, 46 had been returned, four were marked undeliverable because the voters moved without updating their registration addresses, and two ballots were in cure status (pending voter correction). The registrar noted that absentee applications continue to be accepted and ballots are being mailed as requested.
Booth also reported recent voter-registration outreach: a party representative conducted a registration drive at SVCC, and staff visited Randolph-Henry High School on Sept. 29, where five students registered and others scanned a QR code to register online. The registrar’s meeting packet included the Sept. 2023 minutes, the registrar’s written report, and a budget synopsis for Sept. 2023/2024.
The board reviewed upcoming calendar items related to voting: Saturday early voting is scheduled for Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, and Election Day is Nov. 7. The office noted the Department of Elections' online training resources for officers of election.
