Durham County recognizes 100th anniversary of Durham Interdenominational Ushers Union; celebration set for Nov. 8

The Durham County Board of Commissioners included an informal recognition Oct. 27 honoring the 100th anniversary of the Durham Interdenominational Ushers Union (DIUU).
The resolution text presented at the session said DIUU was founded in 1925, includes ushers from multiple denominations across Durham County, supports community ministries such as the Durham Rescue Mission, and operates scholarship programs for youth ushers from its 18 member churches.
Representatives Dollie Burroughs and Augutus Thompson thanked the board for the recognition and invited residents to the centennial celebration on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. at Greater Emmanuel Temple Pentecostal. Chair Nida Allam said she would present a framed, signed copy of the resolution at the celebration.
Because the meeting lacked a quorum, the presentation of the resolution was informal and any formal adoption or official signatures are to be addressed at a future meeting when the board can take official action.
