Board honors community leader DeWarren Langley, introduces county early childhood coordinator and proclaims GIS Day

The Durham County Board of Commissioners used part of its Nov. 10, 2025 meeting for ceremonial recognitions.
The board read and adopted a resolution honoring the life and legacy of DeWarren K. Langley, citing his leadership with the Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation, service on the Civilian Police Review Board and long-time involvement with Kids Voting Durham. A framed copy of the resolution was presented to Langley’s family and Kevin McIver, Chair of the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, presented a plaque and thanked Langley for mentorship.
Donna Rewalt introduced Ileana Vink as the county’s new Early Childhood Coordinator. Ms. Vink thanked the board and said she was passionate about early learning, emotional well-being and food access. The Board noted the importance of the role as federal funding pressures continue.
The Board also proclaimed Nov. 19, 2025, as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day and Meredith Stull, GIS Analyst, described how county departments use GIS for planning, housing, transportation and community engagement and invited residents to attend GIS Day events.
The board expressed condolences to Mr. Langley’s family and appreciation for the work of staff in supporting early childhood programs and GIS services.
