Resident asks Monroe County to fund Coolbaugh Township environmental study; commissioners decline

During public comment at the Feb. 18 Monroe County Board of Commissioners meeting, resident Anna Lopez asked whether the county had funds available to help Coolbaugh Township pay for an environmental impact study of a property in the township.
"Does the county have the availability of funds to assist Coolbaugh Township in conducting an environmental impact study on a property in the township?" Anna Lopez asked.
Chairman John D. Christy replied that the county did not have funds to assist Coolbaugh Township and that such studies are typically conducted by the township for its own land-use recommendations. Vice-Chairman David C. Parker added that the parcel in question is owned by the Pocono Mountains Economic Development Corporation and said it would not make sense for the county to spend money to show the property is largely undevelopable given township setback rules and wetlands.
The exchange concluded without a motion to provide county funding; the minutes record the board’s response and no follow-up appropriation was authorized.
