Upper Blue Planning Commission unanimously recommends Jim Alexander to BOCC, keeps Dan Cleary as basin representative and reviews countywide plan

On Feb. 27, 2025, the Upper Blue Planning Commission convened at 5:30 p.m. and unanimously recommended Jim Alexander for appointment to the Summit County Board of County Commissioners and recommended Commissioner Dan Cleary continue as the basin’s representative to the Countywide Planning Commission.
The meeting opened with Chair Keith Gallacher calling roll; Commissioners Allen Frechter, Richard Holcroft, Dan Cleary, Steve Holcomb, Gordon Manin, Emily Lawless and Ric Pocius were present along with staff Susan Lee, Simon Corson and Margaret Citak. The commission first approved the Summary of Motions from its Oct. 24, 2024 meeting on a motion by Dan Cleary, seconded by Steve Holcomb; the minutes were approved 8-0.
The commission conducted an applicant interview for the vacancy created by Commissioner Richard Holcroft’s seat. After the interview the commission voted 8-0 to recommend Jim Alexander for appointment to the Board of County Commissioners; Dan Cleary moved and Steve Holcomb seconded the motion. The minutes state the BOCC will review the basin planning commission’s recommendations at its regular meeting on March 25 or April 8.
Later in the meeting Commissioner Ric Pocius moved to recommend that Dan Cleary continue to serve as the Upper Blue Planning Commission’s representative on the Countywide Planning Commission. Chair Keith Gallacher seconded; the motion passed 8-0.
The commission then held a work session to review the Revised Draft Countywide Comprehensive Plan. Discussion focused on the Goals, Policies and Actions within the Land Use Plan and on Focus Areas specific to the Upper Blue Basin. The work session was recorded as discussion-only; no formal action on the draft plan was recorded during this meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:41 p.m. on a motion by Richard Holcroft, seconded by Steve Holcomb.
Next steps: the BOCC will consider appointment recommendations at an upcoming regular meeting on March 25 or April 8; the draft countywide plan will remain under review pending further action by staff and commissioners.
