Spencer County’s EM/EMS director reported progress on vaccination outreach and requested budgeted equipment purchases during the Fiscal Court meeting on April 19.
Chris Limpp told the court the county planned a walk-in Moderna vaccine clinic at Ray Jewell Park on April 20 from 10 a.m. to noon; no appointments were required and 150 doses were available. He said the county expected a second clinic 28 days later for second doses and that he planned to schedule additional outreach clinics for residents who cannot travel to Shelbyville. Limpp said North Central Health District would assist clerically, and he recommended tracking hours and equipment so ARPA funds could possibly cover clinic costs.
On operations, the court approved increasing Remey Gnagnie’s pay to $14.00 per hour after Limpp confirmed she completed advanced-EMT schooling and passed national registry testing. Limpp also requested replacing the county’s intraosseous (IO) vascular device because the current unit’s vendor-supplied needles were no longer available; the court authorized a $1,536 purchase of a manual IO device and needles from QuadMed, noting the unit is used infrequently but is vital for severe trauma or burn cases.
"Spencer County was at the bottom of the list for the number of people vaccinated compared to the population," Limpp said, adding outreach clinics were a priority to raise local vaccination rates. The court approved the personnel and equipment requests by recorded motion.
