Fiscal Court backs District 5 road projects, rejects KYTC plan to return portion of Deerwood Drive to county

Projects listed in the Court packet include resurfacing on KY 636 (Van Buren Road) and KY 1169 (Plum Ridge Road), drainage structure replacements on Plum Creek Road, and various state‑maintained patching locations. Separately, the Court considered a KYTC realignment of US‑31E that created two orphaned sections of Deerwood Drive. The Fiscal Court rejected KYTC's recommendation to return ownership and maintenance responsibilities for the "Eastern Deerwood Drive" and connector roadway to Spencer County. The resolution instructs the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to remove the former Deerwood Drive (CR‑1105) from the county road inventory, accept the new Western Deerwood Drive and its connectors into the state system, and to dedicate the new Eastern Deerwood Drive and connector to the property owner it serves; the action was approved by roll call.
County Attorney Jones described the resolution and staff reported that KYTC reconstructed US‑31E (Project 4‑287.50), which resulted in the altered alignments. Maps attached to the packet identify "Deerwood East" and "Deerwood West" connectors and show the segments the Court seeks to have reclassified.
What happens next: The Court directed staff to notify KYTC and requested that KYTC record any official orders needed to remove the former county road from the county inventory and formally accept the western segments into the state system. District 5 is expected to proceed with the maintenance and resurfacing program consistent with the approved priorities and available funds.
