Simpson County court approves rezoning of 9.406 acres on Witt Road

The Simpson County Fiscal Court on Dec. 6 unanimously approved second reading and final passage of Zone Change Ordinance No. 920.121, changing the zoning designation for 9.406 acres on Witt Road in Franklin from AG (agricultural) to I‑2 (heavy industrial).
The ordinance was recommended by the Franklin‑Simpson Planning & Zoning Commission after a public hearing on Oct. 4, 2022. The motion to adopt the ordinance was made by Magistrate Marty Chandler and seconded by Magistrate Nathaniel Downey; the court voted in favor without recorded opposition.
Judge/Executive Mason Bames and other members of the fiscal court did not offer additional conditions as part of the motion. The zoning map will be amended to reflect the new I‑2 designation, enabling industrial uses allowed under that district classification.
The property sits on Witt Road near the Tennessee state line and was requested for rezoning by L & W Properties. The court’s minutes note the prior public hearing before the Planning & Zoning Commission but do not record public comment from the Dec. 6 session on this item.
The newly approved ordinance takes effect according to the county’s standard ordinance-adoption rules and the updated zoning map will be filed with county planning records. The court moved on to other agenda items following the vote.
