Simpson County fiscal court adopts budget amendment, approves transfers and 6.5% wage increase for select officials

At its Feb. 7 meeting, the Simpson County Fiscal Court approved second reading and final passage of FY22/23 Budget Ordinance No. 220.248, Amendment No. 4 in the amount of $255,060 (motion Thurman; second Burr; vote recorded 4 yes, 1 absent). The court also approved a cash transfer of $25,910.39 from the Federal Grant Fund to the General Fund and multiple intra-fund budget transfers as listed in the meeting packet, including specific transfers to membership dues, courthouse maintenance, jail personnel and election e-poll books.
The court approved a 6.5% CPI salary increase for Magistrates Jeffrey Burr, Marty Chandler, Scott Poston and Myron Thurman, Coroner Kevin Gilbert, and County Attorney Sam Phillips. Motions approving bills and claims were carried and the Jan. 31, 2023 financial statement was approved subject to audit and authorized for signature by Judge Executive Mason Bames and Treasurer Nicole Law.
The minutes list vendor payments and payroll totals in the approved bills and claims; the court did not debate the line items during the recorded session. An executive session to discuss proposed or pending litigation was held at 9:00 a.m.; the court returned at 9:05 a.m. with no action taken and adjourned at 9:06 a.m.
