Simpson County Fiscal Court approves sheriff fee settlement, appointments and county investments

Simpson County Judge/Executive Mason Bames and the Fiscal Court on March 7 accepted the 2022 Sheriff’s Fee Settlement of $833,662.12 and approved a package of routine financial measures, appointments and county investments.
The court approved the minutes of the Feb. 21 meeting and, on the recommendation of Bookkeeper Jada Freeman, accepted the sheriff’s fee settlement; Freeman reported the county had collected about 92 percent of 2022 property taxes. The court also approved the reappointment of Laney Snider and the appointment of Christine McDaniel as hotel representatives to the Simpson County Tourism Commission for three‑year terms beginning March 17, 2023.
Magistrates voted to authorize three certificates of deposit through Edward Jones at 5.1 percent interest for specified county funds, and approved a cash transfer of $10,613.41 from the Federal Grant Fund to the General Fund. The court also approved a set of internal budget transfers across departments as presented by staff.
The meeting record lists a long set of bills and payroll items that the court approved; the official minutes supply the vendor-level detail and payroll totals. The court also approved the Feb. 28, 2023 financial statement, subject to audit, and authorized signatures by Judge/Executive Bames and Treasurer Nicole Law.
