Fleming County appoints new jailer; court discusses home incarceration program and approves CARES reimbursement to sheriff

At the Aug. 11, 2020 Fleming County Fiscal Court meeting County Judge/Executive Larry H. Foxworthy announced he had appointed Jeffrey A. Harmon on Aug. 6, 2020 to serve as Fleming County Jailer. The court observed a moment of silence for former Jailer Tim Cooper, who served from November 2010 until his death on July 28, 2020.
The court approved the Fleming County Sheriff's reports for June and July as presented by Deputy Conley and separately approved reimbursement to the Fleming County Sheriff of gross salaries from CARES Act funds received by the county in the amount of $73,016.80.
Members discussed details of a proposed home incarceration program — anticipated participant numbers, administrative duties and compensation, potential outsourcing of program administration, and approaches other counties without a jail use to manage such programs. The court requested additional research and indicated the item will return for further discussion at a subsequent meeting; no final program decision was made during the Aug. 11 meeting.
